Marshall’s CV502-WP Wins TV Technology’s Best of Show Award at NAB 2018
Affectionately dubbed the little camera that could, the Marshall CV502-WP has in a short amount of time become one of the most popular miniature HD cameras in live sports broadcasts today. With its 2.5 Megapixel sensor and HD resolutions up to 1920 x 1080p, 1080i, and 720p, the CV502-WP has been used in all kinds of sports applications, capturing stunning video footage that brings viewers right up close to the action.
The CV502-WP is used regularly for professional broadcasts of car racing, golf, football, baseball, basketball, boxing, and more. For racing, cameras are placed right inside the cockpit to bring live shots of the drivers, and also embedded into the ground to capture high-speed drive-by shots as the cars whizz by. It’s been used famously by the integrators at Admiral Video as a goal-line view of football end zones, with multiple CV502-WPs placed inside end zone pylons to capture game-deciding shots and earning the fan-friendly moniker of PylonCam™ (patent-pending from Admiral Video).
The CV502-WP was also used by Harvard University’s broadcast team for their underwater shots of live water polo and swimming events. With an IP 67 weatherproof rating, the CV502-WP can withstand being submerged up to 1 meter under water for short periods of time. Imry Halevi, Harvard’s Director of Multimedia Production, put those limits to the test when they filmed an all-day water polo tournament at Blodgett Pool at Harvard. He reported that the camera performed beautifully throughout the day and was in perfect working order after spending quite a bit of time under water.
At the 2018 NAB Show, many of these application stories were on display at the booth, and by the time the award was given, there was a palpable sense of accomplishment among the Marshall team that worked to bring this product to market.
Tod Musgrave [above], Director of Cameras at Marshall, proudly displayed the award with the CV502-WP at the show. Paul McLane, managing content director for TV Technology Magazine said of the 2018 NAB award winners, “The [award] program seeks to shine a spotlight on relevant innovations in technology as seen around the million-square-foot exhibit floor of the industry’s top trade show. The list of 2018 winners and nominees gives real insight into where and how rapidly our media tech businesses are evolving.”
